Keeping the land as public use, keeps the game accessible and most importantly gets folks outside and conscious of maintaining their environment." "I've on the peninsula since birth. I'm 33 now and have been playing golf at Sharp Park since the early 90's. Please keep Sharp Park open as an 18 hole golf course. As someone with two young boys and limited income, Sharp Park is one of the only few courses that I can afford..." "Sharp Park Golf Course is a fantastic location to play golf and be in nature. It is affordable and playable by people of all ages, races, young, old, male, and female. I believe that the golf course can work in harmony with the endangered species. In fact, other local course tout their eco-friendly orientation as a plus. Let's keep this course going and make it a flagship for environmental stewardship that it can certainly be." It is one of the Crown Jewels of San Francisco and Pacifica. It would be a travesty to change the layout of such a beautiful course. Golfers know about etiquette. We respect the environment and we support all efforts to maintain the harmony of the ecosystem... Golf brings out the best in people and we pass that on to our children. Countless numbers of children have grown up playing golf at Sharp Park and are now passing it on. That is something San Francisco and Pacifica should take pride in and should nourish and develop. To me Sharp Park GC, defines what is good about S.F and Pacifica." "AS a native San Franciscan and lifelong golfer I grew up playing Sharp Park Golf Course as well as Harding Park. Now that I am retired and a senior I have more time to play Sharps along with many other golfers, seniors and all other ages as well. Please keep Sharps an 18 hole golf course for what it was intended to be enjoyed by all that are lucky enough to experience its beauty and challenge...Thank-You" "I have played this course for 30 years and enjoy the pristine environement and open space. It's indeed a gem. We also used the great restaurant on many occassions having business lunches and breakfast...bringing additional revenue to the area. It's the ONLY golf course on this side of the Bay Area/northern peninsula that's still affordable to everyone and to seniors like myself.
The wetlands area has always been well kept preserving the wetlands and wild life.
You MUST save this precious resource and keep it as a golf course environment for our grand children and their grand children's children. It adds to the unique character and ambience of the area, and to the well being of all." "SPGC has a rich history that provides a wonderful chance to experience the beauty of the area. The course is affordable and makes it accessible to everyone regardless of social status and background. The course is truly one of the few gems in the area. Closing it would have a greater impact to not just the golfers but the local community of Pacifica. The frogs and the snakes are thriving because of the environment and there are many golf courses around the country where local habitat and the community can continue to co-exist and enjoy the use of the land. 'Restoring' Sharp Park is an experiment that doesn't consider the complexity of the problem and doesn't guarantee that it's going to accomplish the goal of increasing the numbers of endangered snakes and frogs. Before we demolish this very valuable community asset, one that would take millions to create in today's dollars, we need to ask many questions. The most important being, is it really necessary? As a young adult growing up in San Francisco, I had spent many weekends playing at Sharp Park and Lincoln Park golf courses.
San Francisco would be doing a disservice to its active seniors and a grave mistake to its youth by not supporting this facility.
We would all be better served to keep Sharp Park's present status." "Sharp Park is an Alistar Mackenzie Golf Course. It was designed by Mr. Mackenzie just before Augusta National where the Masters Tournament is held and just after Cypress Point in Monterey 2 of the most exclusive golf courses in the world. It would be a shame to destroy this work of art which needs a little restoring for short term gains. Think about it, there aren't many left like this one....and public at that." "Please ensure to exhaust every effort to keep this golf course open.
It is a piece of history, not only to Bay Area residents, but due to the course architect, it's a national treasure.
It's akin to going back in time and playing a turn of the century design before the modern Nicklaus, Palmer, Norman, etc. designs became the contemporary flavor.
What a shame if this beautiful course is not allowed to flourish." "...All the logical reasons for keeping the course are well documented. Profitable, and less destructive than a "nature preserve" that allows human traffic etc. This course is a landmark and loved by many people. It qualifies as an asset in many well documented and important ways. Replacing it with a preserve may benefit the native grasses, but look around, the grass hardly seems threatened...
